True preference happens when you least expect it.

I was just starting to guess that our modern plan for the salon was stupid, and would put myself and others out of business.

Then I met Max, and flames flew. Thanks to him I am able to afford all of the various updates to the salon that I needed. I don’t think you have ever been in a beauty salon before, however there is a certain expectation for comfort when you go; then some salons provide out free champagne, or offer massages while you wait. At the bare minimum, a wonderful salon needs to have clean, crisp air quality and a nice cool air conditioner. If a modern customer walks into our salon and it smells or has bad air quality, they will turn around and leave. Thanks to the junky outdated heating and air conditioning idea in our salon, I was losing business. I talked to a few peculiar local heating and air conditioning contractors, however the prices they actually quoted myself and others were too far out of our budget. Then I met Max. Max was an independent heating and air conditioning contractor who worked for himself, and he was more interested in himself and others than our heating and air conditioning system. I took a chance and told Max the bold plan I wanted for our salon. It would take a lot of work, however I wanted a modern air duct, so that every workstation would have its own directional air vent. I wanted custom cooling for every customer, and Max thought it was a wonderful idea. I knew all of this heating and air conditioning work would be high-priced; however, Max said “why don’t my wonderful friend and I discuss it over breakfast” and the rest is history.

When I started this task, I made a vow to myself to learn everything I could. This was the first time I ever had a chance at a real career. Before this task, everything was a dead-end office task, or clerking at a retail store, however now I had our foot in the door. I took a long-term view of our situation and tried to soak up all the information and wisdom I could from the older guys. Mouth shut, eyes open, as the saying goes. I worked extra shifts, I shadowed the senior techs just to watch them work, I did everything I could. It’s laboring, and our heating and air conditioning skill set is growing by leaps and bounds; then last year I made our first set of custom-built air ducts… A few months ago I never would have dreamed that I could really build a set of air ducts, and then install them myself. This is how much I have determined more about heating and cooling in a short stage of time. I went to the work site, detached the outdated air duct, took all the measurements, then went back to the workshop and started building. A few days later I drove to the worksite and installed the modern air ducts, then connected the air vents to them, and finally hooked it all up to the main heating and air conditioning system. After a quick test run to check for splits and gaps, I applied sealant to the modern air duct, wrapped them in insulation, and presented our work to a satisfied customer. I have a lot left to learn; however, I am proud of myself.

Every year I adore taking our anniversary off from work! If it’s also on a weekend, then no problem, however if it’s on a work day I talk to the boss weeks in advance and make sure to request the day off.

I never actually do anything special on our anniversary, I just adore to sleep in late, smoke a bunch of weed, and chug beers for the entire day.

It finally relaxes myself and others and helps to recharge our batteries; however, this year was no different, and then about noon our boss called me and others in a total panic. There was a furnace emergency that had come up, and he needed myself and others to handle it. I tried to put him off and say no, however then he said it was the central furnace at the local retirement home. There were many dozen senior citizens currently without heating, and I was the very best man for the task. It turns out that our boss has an elderly mother who lives there, so he took this furnace emergency honestly seriously. I also agreed to take the task, but I knew it would be such a large furnace it would take much of the day to fix. I didn’t complain, I just drove to the outdated folks home and got right to work on the furnace, however my boss joined me and others to serve as our assistant. He is the owner of the dealer, however he knows I have superior heating and air conditioning skills so he was ecstatic to work as a helper. My buddy and I fixed the furnace within 2 hours, and he gave myself and others a $200 bonus afterward.

Why is it that things always break at the most inopportune time? Take for instance, about a month ago, my entire family came to see me, so I had about 6 extra people staying in my home.

I live in a 3-bedroom house, so there was plenty of room for all of us.

We had my 2 nieces here and they slept on a queen-size blow-up bed. They had never slept on a blow-up bed before, and they loved every minute of it. Anyway, while my family was here, we had a bit of a hiccup. The toilet in the ½ bathroom on the bottom floor decided to break. The flapper broke off from the chain, so the water inside the tank kept running. Thankfully, my dad was able to provide a temporary fix until I could get a hold of a plumber. My dad offered to fix it, but I insisted on just hiring the plumber to do the work. The last thing I wanted my dad to do was to fix my broken toilet while he was on vacation. Anyway, I was able to contact a plumbing service the same morning the flapper broke and by 12:00 p.m. that day, the plumber was at my house. And in less than an hour, the flapper was fixed. I paid the plumber and gave him a tip – it was money well spent to avoid further aggravation. Happy to report the broken flapper was the only thing that went wrong that week, and my family had a great time while they were here.

When I saw sparks coming from my light sockets, I knew there was a problem. I called my husband, and he told me to search for an electrician near me. He said I should have three local electricians and ask them to inspect the house and give us an estimate of what needed to be done. We didn’t want faulty electric wiring to cause a house fire. My parents’ house burnt down right after Christmas about three years earlier. Even though the house had recently been remodeled, the contractor hadn’t looked in the attic or basement. It was their fault they had not completely replaced the wiring, but that was up to the insurance company to handle the contractor who hired the electrician. Thinking about that house, I called the three electricians near me and asked them to look at my wiring. I explained what was happening with the sparks when I plugged something into the wall. I was also upfront about asking other electricians for estimates. The first electrician thought I had a faulty outlet, but I didn’t want his thoughts. I wanted the opinion of a licensed electrician. The second electrician looked at the wiring, and he took the light switches and plugs out of the wall and inspected them all. He thought it could have been the appliance. The third electrician told me he couldn’t possibly do a good inspection in an hour or two. He was going to come to the house and bring some meters that would measure electrical flow, and he could better pinpoint the reason for the sparks. We hired him because he was thorough.

My HVAC company had only been open for two years, but it was already failing.

I had a website that I thought was working fairly well, but I was wrong.

I had tried to take care of advertising on my own, but it wasn’t working either. I had to make what I was doing work. I talked to my wife and son, who were the managing partners in the company. I told them that unless we had a drastic change, the HVAC company was going to close. I hadn’t grown since the day I opened the doors, and without growth, it was a sure death of the business. My wife and son spoke at the same time and told me we needed to hire an online marketing company. My son said he had been looking at the website, and it wasn’t working very well. He said we hadn’t had a single inquiry on the website since we had created it. My wife told me we should start looking for online marketing companies that specialized in HVAC companies. It was going to be an initial investment, but one that would pay off over several months. If it didn’t work for us, we had nothing to lose. The HVAC company was already failing. The next day, my wife was already working on finding a marketing company that specialized in HVAC companies. My son was looking for new ways to get through to our present customers and get them more interested. We would not let the HVAC company fail without putting up a good fight.

In 2020, I had a whole-home air purification system installed in my house. I wanted to make sure my home was clean and free of the COVID-19 virus. The whole-home air purification system was the first step to taking care of that. Now that COVID is winding down, I wanted to make sure my air purification system was still running. I liked the clean smell I had in my house. I didn’t near the amount of dust I once had. My only problem now was that ever since my daughter brought a long-haired cat into the house, there is cat hair everywhere. Not even my air purifier can handle the cat’s hair. I talked to my husband and his solution was simple. He told me to get rid of the cat. His allergies were getting worse since I allowed our kid to have a cat he didn’t want. I didn’t want to hurt my daughter’s feelings, but I needed to clean our air again. I called the HVAC company, and they came out to inspect the whole-home air purification system. They changed the HEPA air filter, installed a new UV light and did some adjustments to the system, but everything was working well. He told me there was just too much hair. I had to keep the cat off the air vents, or get rid of it. It was as simple as that. I told my daughter she either had to get rid of the cat, or keep it in a pet crate so it wasn’t always laying on the air vent. I couldn’t believe it when she said she would get rid of it. My neighbor’s daughter came home from college and was pitching a fit that they gave her cat to the neighbor.
