I didn’t know how the bat got into the house, but I knew it had to go.

The obvious conclusion was that it had somehow gotten into the ductwork and come out in my kitchen.

The bat was on the wall right about the air vent. I called my brother and asked him if he could get the bat out of my house. He laughed while asking why I was afraid of a little bat. The last time I tried to get a bat out of my house, I destroyed my sweeper. The poor thing was trapped in the sweeper hose, where he died. I threw the sweeper away and refused to ever use another vacuum cleaner again. My fear was that if that bat got into the house, there could be an entire bat colony waiting to come in during the night. Maybe this bat was the lookout, searching out a new place to sleep. I had all kinds of weird thoughts going through my mind. When the HVAC technician arrived, he looked through the house to check the ductwork. When he got to the attic, he came out and told me I had to call an exterminator. The walls were crawling with bats, and they carried a lot of diseases. There were holes in the ductwork, and a bat could fit in a hole that was the size of dime. He suggested that once the exterminator came in, I should have the ductwork repaired, cleaned and sanitized. I should also have my attic cleaned and sanitized by a group of professional cleaners the exterminators could point me to.

My brother John, just came to me about getting a van for our HVAC business.

I think it’s a great idea and I fully support our business getting a vehicle that makes us look like better HVAC technicians.

So since he brought up the idea I said “I feel we need to hire 1 or 2 heating and cooling techs to work for us.” He smiled at the idea and said, “most definitely.” I proceeded to tell him after the recent 2 week vacation I was on I’m exhausted from being on call and helping everyone in this small town which feels like a 24/7 job. We are the only 2 HVAC technician’s in this small town and everyone counts on us. John said, “I couldn’t agree more.” I want more time with my family and also I would like more time with my brother outside of us working side by side all the time. I would like to do a cookout or just relax next to the river and have a beer with him without worrying about a person’s heater malfunctioning or someone wanting a smart thermostat installed. If we had 1 or 2 technicians working for us then we can do more things that we would love doing. I want to have a weekend off here and there and take my wife to a movie without fear of being called on a job. It’s just healthier in general that we have another person working with us. So I told my brother I want to get an ad out there starting tomorrow and we start interviewing next week. Also, we are going to take our time with this process because we want someone who would do a great job for our small town.

• I have been kicking around the idea for the last few weeks about us investing some of our earnings in acquiring a van for our HVAC company.

I only see positives and after I talk to my brother, I’m sure he would agree. My brother and I already have been discussing buying new HVAC equipment to help us further our business and throwing the tools in the back of our pickup trucks isn’t something I want to continue to do, especially if we have newer tools. It can get exhausting during the winter months because we sometimes have to shovel a foot or more of snow and then remove the tarp we have on the tools. It isn’t very professional I feel for someone to see a truck with all our HVAC equipment in the back bed of it. Steps into my office is my brother and I say, “I’m just going to get to the point and I think it’s time we buy a van for our HVAC business.” Mark smiles and says, “ that is a great idea and we definitely should do that.” He also then responds saying, “ especially if we get all new equipment.” I smiled and was glad he agreed. Then I said let’s go this weekend. They have some nice vans in the big city. We both know we are not going to find anything in our small town, especially if we want something new and appealing to the city residents.

We keep putting out new songs every week just to create new art and to connect with others, and we don’t care how many likes or followers we have, we just want to put it out there.

• Our latest song called Nobody’s Watching is a more solemn song about feeling lonely and I think it is one of our better songs.

We make a lot of funny songs and kids songs, but we also want to make deeper music and songs with more meaning, and I think this latest song did a pretty good job of doing that. Heating up life with making art is a great way to connect, and the local businesses like when we play in front of their places because we bring people in. Who knows where this music path will take us but it is fun to create and make new art for the world and for ourselves. The HVAC company is great for coming up with material for our songs, and heat pumps and a/c systems can be fun topics to sing about. I think tonight we are going to make a video of us playing on this long rock pier that sticks out into the Mediterranean Sea, and it should be a good video. The heating and cooling rep is going to film us tonight and we will sing a song about HVAC equipment and working on ductwork. It will probably be a funny song and I think we can use it as a promo for the clubs that we want to play in.

 

Keep on heating up your life

As soon as I get this work done I will do a meditation session and then go down for an hour long nap in my bed. My cats will probably come in and sleep with me because they are always looking for a sleeping buddy during the day. I will turn on the small fan by my bed so it drowns out the noise outside and I will sleep like a bear for an hour or so. We are playing music tonight around 6pm and will play for a couple of hours and make some money too. The local service provider by my flat is having a sale on all HVAC technology and I want to go there to see if I can pick up a smart thermostat at a good price. They have been in business for a long time and have a lot of happy customers, which is why I like to shop there instead of just going online at home. It is good to support the local businesses here in town, and the HVAC company has been really good to the people in town, so we like to be good to them too and give them our business. They have been selling for years and have a huge customer base as a result. I think I would like to work there selling heating and cooling systems one day, as I have a lot of experience in the HVAC industry when I used to work for my local contractor father for many years. He taught me a lot and I appreciate him even more so now.
