Ever since his boyfriend of 11 years broke his heart through despicable means, he hasn’t been the same guy. Recently I was lucky enough to go on a week long road trip into the wild canadian landscape.

I had never been into canadian territory before plus was super gleeful to embark on this trip.

The only thing that really worried me was the frosty plus temperamental weather we were about to encounter during the end of canadian winter. My buddy and I currently reside in a hot plus humid semi-tropical climate plus I’ve become embarrassingly accustomed to having hot air around me at all times. The prospect of dealing with frosty plus blustery winter time weather was not something that blissful me, however I decided it was worthwhile to go on the trip anyways. When we arrived at our destination I was completely impressed with how the citizens have adapted to living in such a difficult climate! Everyone wears heavy winter time clothing to support an active outdoor lifestyle up there. They walk from location to location in thick boots plus Eskimo coats rather than relying on boilers aboard cars plus buses. They have also figured out an ingenious way to keep frosty air out of their residential spaces, but namely, this fancy 2-door entry system that I encountered at numerous locations served to efficiently trap hot air inside plus frosty air outside. The premise was simple; there was a vestibule with two doors leading to the interior plus only one automatic sliding door would open at a time. After passing through the first set of doors, you had to wait patiently for that passage to completely close before the next door would slide open. It greatly limited the amount of winter time air that could rush into the indoor space, however sure, it took a few extra seconds to enter each building, but this system was highly effective at keeping the brutally frosty outdoor air outside where it belonged.

I don’t care for to be the sort of person who complains during my times of need.

However, I cannot get over how poorly this room was designed at the local ladies’s shelter.

You see, about a month ago I had to leave my apartment because the living situation was becoming too dramatic with my wifey. I went to a local ladies’s shelter and they assigned me a room to stay in for the next few weeks. I was expecting the shelter to be in deplorable condition, honestly. I was ready for a sleepless night of heat and humidity, because I anticipated that the facility had a 30 year ancient AC unit. I even brought my own miniature fan to supply some sort of air movement in the assumedly sweltering room. When I arrived, however, I found that my worries were unfounded. Not only was the entire shelter beautifully air conditioned, however my room was truly a bit too cold when I walked in. The AC was flowing nicely from an overhead air vent, and I was shocked to feel all the cool air flowing over me. The thing is, there’s truly too much AC for my preference; Because of the localement of the air vent overhead, I can’t escape from the cold drafty breeze no matter where I stand in the room. Here I am, freezing my butt off in the middle of August in the deep south. I don’t foresee this being a comfortable stay at the shelter for long. Of course I didn’t know to pack my winter time coat or flannel pajamas when I left.

I feel like I continually complain about being an adult, but it just keeps getting worse somehow.

I thought that my most financially unsteady times were behind me, but it seems like there’s a new surprise every day.

That’s why I started working out an intense budgeting system for myself last month. I was hoping I could cut down on frivolous spending if I tracked every dollar I made, and from there I could develop a brand new system for divvying up my cash. However, I think all this financial analysis has mostly worked to turn me against my heating and cooling system at home. You see, I realized within a few hours of developing my budget that one of my largest expenses was my home electrical bill each month. From there, I determined that it was my outdated heating and cooling system which cycles on and off all day long, that sucked up a ton of energy. I tried my best to cut down on my thermostat reliance, but even with the temperature continually set to a moderate 74 degrees, my energy bill was still astronomical. I called out my local HVAC technician and had the entire heating and cooling system and ductwork completely cleaned out. Still, my furnace and air conditioner seemed to run very inefficiently. That’s when I began looking into updated heating and cooling equipment. Soon I had a brand new energy star rated heater in my basement and air conditioner sitting out back. Finally, my energy bills started to plummet! Too bad I just blew two years of budgeting on my new equipment.

I have a bit of a hard time making long term decisions.

I don’t know how people can assume how they’ll feel in five, ten, or fifty years.

It makes no sense to me that they can plan ahead accordingly, when life will always throw curveballs you can’t anticipate. That’s why it’s a little difficult for me to commit to things. Right now, for instance, I can’t make up my mind about whether to have my old furnace repaired or replaced. I know that sounds like a minor consideration, but there are many ramifications of my decision either way! You see, the old furnace is on its last leg. Every few weeks it has a major failure, and I’m constantly calling the HVAC repair company out to my property. At this point they know my name and have my billing information on file for their repeat visits. I know I can’t continue to pay them for emergency visits and hourly labor rates, but I also don’t know if I’m ready to commit to a brand new heating system. Even though I already have a new make and model of heater picked out, I can’t pull the trigger yet. I feel like the moment I purchase a new central heater, I’m signing on for another 5-10 years living at this house. There’s no point in buying a brand new temperature control system and moving out within the year. Now I’m living with spotty heat and tons of internal chaos. I’m just not ready to commit to a new furnace!
