The new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning installed in the new barn would have state-of-the-art air purification to help make the animals comfortable.

With new animals coming, we needed to prepare the barn adequately. It was also winter, and we had to prepare for the cold season. Hay had been stacked up; other animal and poultry feeds had been brought. The only thing remaining was partitioning the new barn and for the HVAC technician to install a new HVAC unit, which, according to the HVAC professional, was very energy efficient. We also wanted to add a whole-home air purification system to enhance the indoor air quality in the farmhouse and HVAC maintenance. Preparations for winter always seemed like a never-ending list of things to do. We also needed an extra air filter to re-insulate the old barn and seal the ductwork because losing heat during winter will result in very high energy bills at the end of the month. I love spring compared to the other seasons; the smell of morning air after a drizzle and reading a book on a rainy afternoon. It is also when we call for home services from the local HVAC company to avoid emergencies during winter and summer. The air quality systems for the main house were always well maintained. Their comfort meant more products from them, resulting in a profit. Clean air is essential not only for human beings but also for animals. The other that the local contractor needed to do to improve was duct cleaning to help with indoor comfort. There was a lot to do, but we were confident we would do it on time.

Recently I got a new apartment after being transferred by the company I work for to another branch.

The apartment I got is located in a good place near my new home of work.

But it did not have a functional HVAC. The landlady told me that an HVAC technician from the HVAC maintenance shop would come and fix it during the weekend while I was not at work. When the tech arrived, he did some duct cleaning, changed the air filter, and tried fixing any other equipment problems. He also told me that it wasn’t his first time repairing the equipment. The equipment kept breaking down even when the previous tenant lived there. When I asked the landlady, she told me she had been planning to buy a new HVAC unit. She informed me that she had already consulted an HVAC professional about the air quality systems and was planning to visit the HVAC company after a short while. The equipment worked for three months, but then it broke down again. The landlady finally went to buy new equipment to help with indoor comfort. She went and bought new equipment with a sound air purification system. After a few days, the new equipment was delivered. A local contractor was called for the installation of the equipment. The contractor installed everything fresh, including the ductwork. After that, the air quality was excellent. The landlady also signed up with the home services for regular HVAC tune-ups. This would help identify any problem the equipment may have in the future before the damage becomes unfixable. It was a long weekend, but I knew the problem was permanently fixed. The apartment was now a safe space for me.

When we were newlyweds, my husband and I bought a house since we lived with our parents before marriage.

I was so excited to start homemaking but was a bit clueless about things like HVAC maintenance.

Several months after our move, my allergic rhinitis started flaring up. I am allergic to fur and pollen, and we didn’t have any pets, and it wasn’t the season for hay fever. My husband thought that maybe we had mold, so he called the mold hunters, who, after inspecting the entire house, only reported finding fur in the ductwork. That’s how we discovered my trigger and immediately scheduled an HVAC technician to do an extensive duct cleaning and get the fur out without damaging the HVAC unit. As the cleaning happened, I moved back to my parent’s house while my husband worked with the HVAC professional to restore our home’s air quality. He also found out that the previous homeowners had some cats, which they didn’t mention, hence the fur stuck in the entire air purification system. We are fortunate that the HVAC company offers home service for the cleaning because it happened faster than we expected, which the local contractor explained was because they’d installed the air quality systems in the house, so they were familiar with the setup. Once the cleaning was done, the technician also changed our air filter because it was already contaminated with fur and other dirt. We opted to go with the disposable filters, hoping that they would keep the air clean and help with indoor comfort, which is the best allergy management decision for me.

It’s interesting who you meet on a golf course.

At least, that’s been the case with me all of my adult life.

My dad taught me golf because he loved the game but there were other motivations for us getting out of the air conditioning. We’d play lots of golf together and he taught me a lot about how business can get done on the golf course. I sort of thought that was lame at the time. I wanted to work inside a big, downtown office with my own thermostat. This was much the way my dad spent his days and I wanted to model that. But he was right, I have ended up creating and investing in business relationships on the golf course. HOwever, I’ve also really enjoyed meeting and learning about other folks. I play in a league that is not super serious but isn’t just an excuse to drink beer either. While we all love being out of the central air conditioning of our homes, we’re also all competing. We welcomed a new member to the league this year and he turned out to be an HVAC professional. He works for a local HVAC company as an HVAC contractor. We got to talking one day about what it took for him to get where he is. I was stunned by the number of classes, certifications and licenses this HVAC professional had. It only further proved to me that I am in good hands with any HVAC professional because they are experts in their field. Plus, the guy is like a ten handicap and destroyed me all season.

March is here and so is Spring.

In this part of the country, we’ve been dealing with dustings of pollen on everything outside for 2 or 3 weeks.

And I think I even heard the neighbor’s heat pump running the other afternoon. But then again, those folks hate the heat with a passion. So why they live this far south, I just don’t understand. I mean, if you’re moving here just to sit inside the air conditioning, it seems like a bit of a waste. But to each his own I suppose. That said, this is the time of year that I’m dusting off the playbook for saving on air conditioning costs. This is easily the biggest utility cost I face all year. But it starts now with the HVAC strategy I have found to be most effective. Unlike my neighbor, we do not reach for the thermostat as soon as the temperatures breach the 80 degree mark. Instead we wait. We let our bodies acclimate to the rising heat and humidity. Plus, I don’t think I’ve seen a more beautiful spring anywhere else. Sure, it’s a bit warmer than a lot of other places during the spring. But doing without air conditioning as much as possible is a big factor when it comes to our air conditioning strategy. Once the summer gets here, the air conditioning is on and the house is sealed up tight. We also make sure that the blinds are pulled so we stop any direct sunlight heating. Thanks to being more acclimated to the heat and humidity, we don’t need to set the thermostat all that low. And that saves a ton of money over four or five months of the worst heat.

My pup was in terrible pain last week after falling down the steps.

I thought he had internal injuries or had broken something.

I rushed him to the local animal hospital and took him into the emergency room. I sat there for ten minutes, and the smells were making me sick. I was afraid that if I had to sit there much longer, I was going to throw up. The smell of cat urine and feces was overwhelming. We dog odor was permeating into my clothing, and the smell of sick animals was enough to make you pass out. When I was finally called into the office, I had to say something. I told the doctor they needed an air purification system in their office. They had excellent HVAC, but without the air purifier, it wasn’t going to do any good. She asked me how I knew about the HVAC and the air purification system, and I told her I was an HVAC technician. She checked over Puffer and told me he was crying because he felt unsafe now. She showed me how to swaddle him and I should baby him with some pet formula for awhile. He would come around shortly. She then asked if I would come around one cday and look at the HVAC system. She had been considering having an air purification system installed, but hadn’t had the time to call the HVAC company. I was more than happy to help out, especially when I found out she was also single, and my age. Two weeks later I was installing a whole-home air purification system into the animal hospital, and setting up my first date with the doctor and our dogs.

I was getting ready to finally meet my girlfriend’s parents.

• I was nervous enough before I picked her up, but now I was petrified.

The first words she said to me was that if I loved her I would do exactly as she said. She then told me that for tonight, you are NOT an HVAC technician. You are Harold Butler, son of the local butcher, and you are just home for the weekend. My mouth dropped open and I had no idea what to say. She lifted my chin and told me she would explain later. I walked into the house and when she introduced me as Harold Butler, I ignored her. I forgot that was my name for tonight. I was used to being Victor Swinski, local HVAC technician. I didn’t like being called Harold. Charlene’s mom asked what I did for a living and Charlene answered. She told her about me being the son of the local butcher and I was only home for the weekend. An hour later, Charlene was helping her mom in the kitchen. Her dad leaned over and asked who I really was. I started to say I was Harold, but I couldn’t remember the last name. I told him I was Victor Swinski, and I was a local HVAC technician. He told me that if I loved his daughter and wanted to marry her, I should stick with Charlene’s story. Her mother hated HVAC technicians. I asked him why, and he told me she thought they always overcharged and didn’t trust anyone who had to wear a uniform and wasn’t a police officer or soldier.
