Mondays, you got to love them! Actually, you don’t but it’s the first day of the work week.

This morning I woke up to a cold house and didn’t understand why my roommate didn’t turn the thermostat up to 75 degrees like has done in the past. He gets up usually an hour or so before I do so he knows that I like it a little warmer when I wake up. We both enjoy the coolness of the night to sleep but I need that warmth to get out of bed. I can only guess that he forgot since we both were up so late last night watching a movie. I told him he should’ve gone to bed and we could’ve finished it today but nope, he wanted to finish it. Regardless, now I have to deal with the cool temperatures of the house. So I looked at the dial thermostat and it was set to 75 degrees. Now I’m a bit puzzled. I guess he did turn up the heat but it’s definitely not 75 degrees in this house. The house temperature says 62 degrees and I know something is wrong. I didn’t really want to do it but I always love excuses to get out of work so I called the HVAC company. They said they have a little availability in a few hours and I’ll see a heating technician then. I was happy they were able to move so fast on this. I would hate to wake up again tomorrow morning with the same issue. The heating technician showed up a few hours later and examines the HVAC system. He said, “that the furnace is dead and when was the last time the air filters were cleaned?” Disappointed, I asked, “what’s the damage?”

Woke up early today and I am exhausted.

It was a late night last night and I have to get motivated for work now.

I really shouldn’t have watched that movie last night, especially on a Sunday night. I’m always tired on Mondays and today just feels worse since I had less sleep now. I reached over for my vape pen and took a drag and it was empty. How perfect, definitely not a great start to my morning. I know I still had time for work so I prepared myself to leave a bit early so I can buy a new vape pen. Before I left I turned the thermostat up to 74 degrees for my roommate John. John likes it to be a bit warm when he gets up. Which is fine and he doesn’t get up for another hour. The store is 3 blocks down the road, easy walking distance. I don’t like wasting gas if I know I can make a walk in 10 minutes. So I did the walk. When I arrived there was a sign on the door and it said, “closed until further notice.” What? This is my place to go to. They have the vape pens I require. I love this place and every time I walked in I felt that wonderful air conditioning. I would sometimes on weekends spend hours there. Now it might be gone for good. This is a blow for sure. As I started to walk away I saw the owner walking up to the shop and I asked what happened. He said, “no worries, just shutting down for a couple of days until the new HVAC system is installed.” I felt relieved but I know I’ll have to hurry up and get home to rush to another store before work now.

I’m pumped that today is Saturday.

Waking up at 9 am, relaxing, drinking tea and reading the news on my smartphone.

It’s definitely going to be a great day. It’s snowing outside like it has the last few days and it’s getting to be around 2 foot now. I know in some parts of the states, everything will be shut down but not where I live. I see people joyriding on their snowmobiles, kids throwing snowballs and the occasional vehicle driving down the road sliding all over the place. Those people really need to get snow tires or stay home. I could drive my truck if I like to but I’m really not a fan of driving in poor conditions especially after seeing how other people drive. All of a sudden I hear the loudest shriek. It was my neighbor, Steve. A little terrified I put my phone down, grabbed my snow boots and did my best to get to his house. The snow made it really hard for me to get over there. Usually takes me about 5 seconds but probably half a minute with all this snow. I knocked on Steve’s door hard and yelled, “are you ok?” Steve opened the door and said, “there is a spider in my portable space heater and I don’t know what to do.” My scared face turned into a puzzled face very quickly. Lucky for Steve I’m an HVAC technician and I said I can look at it real quick. He was concerned about a nest being in it. In my mind I was laughing at the situation. I really don’t know why he has a portable space heater to begin with. He has central heating afterall. After examining his heater there was nothing to be afraid of. I told him it must have been a one off and everything should be fine going forward.

It’s one of the snowy days and there isn’t a reason to go anywhere.

• I just want to sit in my home, drink some hot cocoa and read a book.

I don’t have any major plans today and that is the best part of today. My house is very comfortable in general and I do have a lot of the perks that someone who has been successful in life should have. I have a nice car, a beautiful home and my dog, Gibbon. I really don’t care to have anything else. My house has everything that makes me comfortable. I don’t care to get out often so staying home is a lot of what I love doing. I have the perfect heating and cooling in my house. Although I do have central heating and cooling I still use my portable space heater more than anything. I just like the direct heat on my body as I sit in my chair. There really isn’t anything like it until today. I still love my portable space heater but today a big spider crawled out of it. I freaked out wondering if there was a nest in it and if so, how many spiders are in it? This thought is nightmarish to me and I don’t know if I should now toss my portable space heater outside. I’m confused about what to do and at the same time, I don’t want to touch it. What if a spider got on my arm? I’m terrified of spiders but maybe I pay someone to take it out and I contact the HVAC company to see what kind of portable space heaters they may have or one they would recommend. A beautiful day now is a nightmare for me.

I will never complain about anything.

I live with a family to whom I rent out a room. They are very nice and I pretty much can do anything as long as the late nights I’m not super loud. I sometimes eat dinner with them or do things with them but overall I kind of do my own thing. I can also say I’m not there often but it’s nice that I have a place, although it’s just a bedroom, it’s still better than what a lot of people have. So I will not complain about that. The only issue I have living there is that the temperature control isn’t exactly to my liking. Recently I bought a portable space heater because it was pretty cold in my room. I can’t exactly mess with the thermostat settings because it’s not my home. I was using 2 or sometimes 3 blankets to keep myself warm at night. I asked if they didn’t mind if I bought a portable space heater so I can keep control of the temperature of my room and they agreed. They said if the electric bill raises a bit, they might ask me to pay a tad more but overall it was completely fine. They still want me to live in comfort and that’s nice that I have that. I will never complain about anything. There really isn’t anywhere else to go and I’m very young and just graduated from college. I know when my career takes off and if I can afford it I will help this family in any way I can. They have supported me this far and I will show my gratitude. Hopefully, sooner than later.

It feels that in my life with my 2 parents, my dad has control or say in everything.

It’s not really a big deal apparently.

My mom is just happy in life in general. I think it’s because my dad does everything he can to make sure our lives are phenomenal in every way imaginable. He has worked his butt off over the years and it has paid off. My mom always wanted to be a stay at home mom and take care of me growing up and my dad worked 2 jobs to help make sure that happened. I guess I shouldn’t say he is controlling but he does want to see my mother happy at all costs. My dad doesn’t really care about his health or if he’s exhausted. He will find a way to succeed at all costs. These days he doesn’t have to work 2 jobs so he gets to spend more time with us at home, which is a big change before I turned 10. I barely saw the guy. Now that he’s home all the time he takes control of the tv, dinner options and the temperature control of the house. I’m not really a big fan of him messing with the dial thermostat settings because he is never comfortable. This actually makes me uncomfortable because one minute I feel the nice air conditioning and 10 minutes later I feel the furnace on full blast. I don’t know if he is still trying to find comfort in being home but he is now messing with my livelihood. Regardless, I’m going to give it a bit of time but I hope he figures it out soon.

The one thing I hate about getting older is that technology keeps advancing.

Kids these days are growing up in a world where everything is right at your fingertips.

I’m not going to lie, I am a little jealous of what they have compared to what I had when I was younger but that is just a little. This is going to sound a little boomerish but when I grew up we just lived life. There were no cell phones or internet or anything like that. We were just on our bicycles and beat on our friend’s parent’s door to see if they were home. That was part of the adventure. Life was way simpler back in the day. Obviously, there were things we’d all love to change about the history of others and myself growing up but I felt we were freer. Curfews were about the sun setting for dinner. I miss it but the advancement of technology can make life fun in other ways. You can call friends or family at will, you have movies, books and video games at your fingertips. If you need to know how to cook something or learn about how to change a car tire you can just look it up on your cell phone or computer. Recently, my son bought and installed a smart thermostat in my home. I have a cell phone but really don’t know how to use it. My son thankfully is an HVAC technician who works for one of the largest heating and cooling businesses in the world and he knows his stuff. Just like everything I said before, now I have temperature control in my home. My sunset it all up for me because I couldn’t do it but this is another great technological advancement that amazes me.
