My personal office at work has a window air conditioner unit.

It worked pretty well for my first year with the company.

However, I will admit that it did emit a sort of faint mildew smell. It eventually started dripping condensate on the carpet. I was a bit too lazy and slow to address this problem. I simply put a plastic container under the air conditioner to catch the condensate. In reality, I should have called out for an HVAC technician pretty quickly once I noticed the leak. Ultimately however, I did not. Further complications arose, and before I knew it the window air conditioner unit was blowing out tepid air! It did not matter what I set the thermostat to, it simply was not able to produce cool air anymore, much less cold air! That’s when I finally decided to call out a heating and air conditioning specialist. The repairs were costly, despite the fact that it was simply a window AC unit. The HVAC technician told me that the cost would not have been so high had I addressed the issue much more quickly than I did. I just feel that certain things should work as they are supposed to without me needing to give them much attention. I guess that pretty much means that I take the air conditioner for granted. Well, I guess I can’t do that anymore. I suppose calling out an HVAC technician isn’t all that difficult to head these things off at the pass. I mean it’s not like I’m the one fixing it!

I live in a generally mild climate. When I was a kid, I lived in a very hot and dry climate. I lived out in the Southwest and the heat was quite brutal at times. Central air conditioning was of the utmost importance to provide my family and I with comfort almost constantly throughout the entire year. When I moved to this much milder climate, I was amazed that some people in my neighborhood didn’t even bother with an air conditioning system! Some of them simply had a couple of window air conditioners. Others literally did not have any central heating and air conditioning at all! They relied on ceiling fans and opening windows. I have to admit that throughout much of the year, you can get away with doing that in this climate. However, I still insisted on purchasing some form of heating and air conditioning for those days, rare though they may be, in which HVAC would be needed. My wife and I ultimately settled on getting a ductless mini-split HVAC system. We did not need to spend exorbitant prices on central HVAC when ductless units did just fine. Our home is relatively small so two ductless units on either side of the house suit us nicely! Ductless units are cheap and simple, though they are quite efficient at cooling small areas very efficiently! They consist of an indoor and an outdoor component and maintenance is pretty easy! I love my ductless units!

I’m down to about an hour of work left for the day and it is still the morning for another 25 minutes.

It is kind of nice having your workday done by the time most people are just taking a lunch break.

It gives me plenty of time for myself and time to do the things I would normally be doing near the end of the day. I like to go shopping for food when most people are still working, which is usually around 3pm or so, and then I am done and avoid the long lines in the air conditioned stores where I shop. I got my shopping down to a science, only going to the store three times a month for about 20 minutes at a time. I leave my climate controlled flat and walk three minutes to the local business, then I get my shopping done really quickly as I pretty much eat the same foods each week, and then I am home three minutes later and am putting it all away. That trip for food lasts me about ten days before I need to do it again, so it makes shopping not so bad when it is only a few times a month. The refrigerated foods last a long time as my fridge is nice and cold and keeps the fruit and veggies fresh for a long time. I like to shop at the local business near my flat because it is close and the climate control makes for a nice shopping experience when you are in the place.

Today is workout day for the shoulders, chest, and triceps.

I did a little bit yesterday but I was so tired from lack of sleep that it was a paltry workout at best.

Today I have a bit more energy as I think I slept about seven or so hours last night. I was in bed quite early for a Saturday night, but I was so exhausted that I had no energy to stay up later than that. I rarely go out at night to bars or clubs because I am so burned out of that circus life. Air conditioning in my bedroom and a good book is all I need at this point to keep me happy on a Saturday night, and my lady feels the same as she reads a book in her climate controlled bedroom near me. We sleep in different bedrooms because I have a weird sleep schedule and don’t want to keep her awake with my nightly antics of tossing and turning and eating food in the middle of the night. I used to hit all of the local businesses and pubs when I was in my 20s and 30s, but when I hit 40 I just wanted some good heating on a winter night and a good book to read. I guess if I stayed in the clubs till now I wouldn’t be so healthy anyways. I still do gigs in climate controlled bars and clubs but I pretty much do them and then race home so I can be with my book, haha. What a party animal I’ve become!

I will write one more of these and then I am done for a while.

I am taking a week off next week and just going to chill at the beach each day.

I will have to buy a sun umbrella though because if I am out in the sun all day I will turn into a leather tomato. I just want to go each day to the beach and listen to music while relaxing and reading a book. I need a week off after all of the months I have been working seven days a week on HVAC tech writing jobs. I think it is good to have some time off to get away from your work so you can come back refreshed and ready for another round of it. I’ve been working as a cooling expert for many years and it is getting down to the wire soon where I can finally hang up the HVAC rep boots for good and enjoy a life of leisure. I read this book called Work Less and Play More back in 1998 and it changed the course of my life for good. I began to run my own local business and got it to the point where I was only working 15 hours a week with my buddy, the local contractor, and that number of hours a week seems to work best for me. I was working around 50 or more hours a week as an engineer in a very stressful environment, but I grew tired of the politics and quit the circus 25 years ago.

 

 

Home comfort business

Next week is going to be an off week for work with my online writing job, so I am going to put more energy into music and see if I can get some stuff accomplished. I want to make some new songs with my bandmate and today seems like the perfect day to do that as the weather is really nice and the streets are pretty packed with tourists. On a good day playing in the street we can make upwards of $200 in tips, which is really nice because we like to practice and are getting paid too. Space heating device sales is what I do in the day for the local contractor, and at night we can be found playing music in beach bars and clubs around town. It won’t be long till my main gig is music though, as we are starting to get some traction with our band and will probably be hitting the road to do tours in the near distant future. We are buying an air conditioned caravan soon and will go from town to town doing shows, which has been a dream of mine ever since I became an HVAC expert many years ago. I knew I wouldn’t be doing that kind of work the rest of my life and knew that music was where my heart lied, and now it is all starting to come together after almost 20 years of work. I will do more work for the new contractor in town while we get this band setup to travel and then I’ll be gone.

I have a real problem with my cat and the weather stripping.

My cat loves to go outside and unfortunately because of this he’s for some reason gotten this idea into his head that if he calls at the weather stripping at the bottom of our door to the backyard that that will somehow let him outside when I don’t want to let him out.

Anyways, unfortunately he’s destructive and he’s destroyed the weather stripping twice now and because of this whether it’s letting all kinds of cold air inside of our house. If he keeps it up I’m going to start keeping him in a separate room so he can not damage the house anymore. He’s had free rein of the house for too long, and while I’ve tried to be nice to him all it’s doing is leading to him being more and more destructive. Now every time it’s cold outside I can feel cold air from the outside sleeping into the house. In fact I’ve noticed that I’ve had to turn my heating system on the thermostat up higher to compensate for the cold air this weakness of the house because of the now open areas the cold air can get in. I’m going to for the third time fix the weather stripping, this way I don’t have to go and run my heating system extra anymore. Running my heating system more than I would like to is costing me money, as well as it’s costing me comfort because I can feel the cold air in the draft it’s going to the house. So I’m going to put a stop to it.
