So at least I can work the heating and cooling remotely without having to get on my feet.

I wouldn’t wish what I’m going through on anyone. Not even the worst of the worst on the planet would I wish this sort of recuperation upon. The last six months, I’ve been very slowly recovering from a really bad accident. I left the central air conditioning of my home early, before sunrise like I do every morning. Getting a run in before heading off to the zone controlled HVAC of the office is something I’ve done since I started my career. There is something about getting out in the quiet pre-dawn hours that sets the tone for the rest of the day. I tend to wear ear buds and listen to music while I run. That’s why I didn’t hear the drunk driver jump the curb behind me and mow me down on the sidewalk. All I remember was being lifted into the air and then the next thing I was doing was asking the nurse to turn down the air conditioning. Of course, I was drugged up and feeling nothing at that point. I can’t say the same for the last six months. It’s been brutal to be stuck at home inside the central air conditioning of my house. Between the pain, the physical therapy and the sheer boredom, I’m doing my best not to lose it. But at least the HVAC technology has my back. I have a smart thermostat which comes with an app on my phone. So at least I can work the heating and cooling remotely without having to get on my feet. Just getting to my feet takes so much effort. But at least it’s possible. It’ll be another blazing Summer so I’m glad that I at least have my air conditioning comfort at my fingertips.

Lately my thermostat has been acting weird.

Although I am supposed to be the one in control of it, it seems like it has a mind of its own.

For example, I will turn the furnace on and start heating the home, because it will be in the 50s outside. Later, I notice my home is somehow ice cold, and looking at my thermostat I noticed that it is for some reason set for 65 degrees! The A/C is going full blast pouring icy cold air in my home. I would reset it, and the same thing would happen later in the day. It was getting ridiculous that I felt like I couldn’t even control the temperatures in my own home! Something had to be done, and to be honest, I never liked that thermostat anyways, and so I bought a smart thermostat online and had it shipped to me. As soon as I got the new heating and cooling thermostat, I chucked the old one in the garbage. Bye-bye unpredictable thermostat, and hello fancy luxurious smart thermostat. That seemed to fix the majority of my problems, thankfully. Maybe the issue was that my old thermostat was old and needed replacing. I don’t know and it doesn’t matter, because that is an issue of the past. I really enjoy the features my new wifi thermostat offers me as well. I love the fact that I can now control my heater and air conditioner through my phone, so cool and incredibly convenient!

It was Thursday night, and Thursday nights are always game nights.

My wife, and our two sons gather to play some board games, and occasionally online games, and see who will be the winner.

Sometimes we also do online trivia, just to test our knowledge on things. Unlike some other families, our family is pretty good at keeping things calm and not getting too over competitive, although sometimes it can be difficult. Today’s game of choice was going to be Twister. Not really much winning this one, more of just seeing who is the most flexible. Midway during the game, I had to stop. My son was complaining about the heat, and it didn’t take long for the rest of the family to agree that it felt overheated in the home. Stopping, I noticed myself that it did feel unusually hot in the home. I went over to our smart thermostat, and noticed that it was off. I turned the air conditioning machine on, and I expected to feel a cooling breeze come from the A/C vents, but instead the HVAC machine sputtered and shut down again. This wasn’t a good idea, and getting the cooling machine working again was obviously going to be a cooling specialist’s job. So my family and I decided to move our game playing outside, since it was a nice cool night. The HVAC problems were soon forgotten, as we enjoyed the rest of our game time. I will have to schedule an appointment with the A/C corporations in the morning, when they are open.

He would not even mention that the HVAC repairman who would do the job was his buddy.

North stepped back. “I already looked at the central heater, that’s why I’m late. You need a new one.” Tess withdrew her hands from the sling’s straps and lowered her voice to a hiss. “What do you mean I need a new boiler?” “The one you have is older than you are. I tracked down somebody to replace it.” Tess had forgotten that she’d muted her phone to keep from waking the baby and had missed a call from him. “I ordered a new one for you,” he said. Tess did not like the fact that North had taken over her house. Her heater was her business, and she would have eventually called the heating and cooling provider. Tess had anticipated that the HVAC technician would recommend a boiler repair, but replacing the electric furnace was something other than what she anticipated. How would she afford a new heating and cooling system at such a time? Why couldn’t it be that the HVAC equipment only needed a furnace/heater tune-up? North could see the wheels turning in Tess’s head, and he told her he had taken care of the boiler and any anticipated expenses. To save face, she made a fuss about maintaining the same heating technology and how the heating contractor had to be qualified. She also unnecessarily mentioned how ell she North had learned quite a bit about Tess in the short time they had been neighbors, and he knew better than to bring up an argument. He would not even mention that the HVAC repairman who would do the job was his buddy. When she got like this, not even logic was welcome. It had taken much of him to accept his help, and he knew better than to push her further. The only reason she accepted his kind gesture was because of the baby.

I have 27 more minutes to go before I get to take a break for a bit.

• I will write this article and then do some other work online for 20 more minutes or so before I head off down the small streets of my town to make my way to the shore.

There is something magical about the coast that opens people’s minds and souls up and makes them feel a bit lighter. I’ve always lived by the coast for this reason and will probably die somewhere along the coast one day, then just sprinkle my cooling ashes in the sea. My dad was an HVAC worker and a fisherman and his dad was also an avid fisherman, so I grew up on the water and will live the rest of my life by the sea. The weather is heating up and I just got a small window a/c unit yesterday, which is a bit loud, but my earplugs seem to block most of the sound. My flatmate likes it warmer at night for sleep so I bought this little unit and hopefully will save money and pay for the unit over the next two summers. I like the really cold air conditioning in my room at night, and last night my little mini split a/c system almost made it snow in my room. I just hope that the noise is not annoying for her because her bedroom is located right beside mine, but if it is too loud she has some earplugs to help with the sound of the climate control system.

At least I’ve done all I can so when it comes to being prepared for the Summer and all the air conditioning that’s about to happen! It’s still just so superb outside as my buddy and I work our way into May, then but that’s the end of all the nice, Springtime weather for sure; Every day that’s not hot and humid is sort of a bonus round situation when you live where I do.

In a few weeks, the full weight of Summer heat and humidity will be upon us, the nights of waking up with the windows open and the nice breezes and highs in the low 80’s are almost over.

But while I’ll miss that weather and will have four months of grinding through the heat of Summer, I’m at least prepared. The air conditioning tune up is done as the Heating as well as A/C professionals came out the first week of March for that. The house is ready as I’ve updated all the weather stripping to ensure a nice seal on the house, having a slender house is another way of adding efficiency to the Heating as well as A/C equipment! And I’m getting in the habit of pulling the shades each day before I head off to work. These are all unquestionably important parts of any strategy aimed at reducing air conditioning costs. But when the Heating as well as A/C serviceman came to do the Heating as well as A/C maintenance, he brought with him an additional tool to help with saving on cooling costs. I had a smart thermostat added to the Heating as well as A/C equipment. It’s been here a couple of months. And while the air conditioning has been just left on yet, I assume this Heating as well as A/C technology has had time to learn our patterns, but so I’m happy to care about the convenience of not having to be a thermostat hawk all Summer while saving perhaps an additional 15 percent or more.
