The climate around our neighborhood has honestly changed over the past few years.

I have lived here for the past decade plus a half with my wife plus my pal and I can confirm that things have worsened in the last 3 years.

Allergy season has become worse with a lot of pollen plus dust being released. A lot of dust seems to get into our home plus settle on everything. This has made my wife’s allergic reactions worsen to the point that each week my pal and I needed to be at the hospital. I have a foggy brain! Well, not really, But, I always seem to forget crucial things.

One way I’ve tried to overcome this issue is to keep a detailed calendar on my phone.

I think having a calendar on my phone has been a lifesaver when it comes to work and my relationships. I once forgot my favorite cousin’s birthday, and she didn’t speak to me for two months. We are the best of friends so that was an eye opener. I now not only have her birthday on my calendar, but also other special days so I don’t miss any of them. The calendar is also where I have all my notes for work, and all projects I’m working on. So far, I’ve not missed any deadlines or forgotten tasks that I have to do each day. So, imagine my shock when this past spring I forgot to add AC maintenance to my calendar. This is one of those tasks that I never want to skip knowing the heat and humidity that comes with summer. But, it completely slipped my mind, and I never had AC maintenance on my calendar. Come summer, I woke up one morning on my off day soaking wet because my AC was off. At first, I thought we didn’t have any electricity, but the issue was the cooling system. I had to contact an HVAC business for same-day repair, but they could only fit me in for later in the afternoon. My house was getting warmer with every passing hour. I didn’t have a portable AC and stayed miserable until I had my AC fixed.

Work has been great, and I must admit I made the best decision relocating.

I was born and raised in the north, and that’s where I thought I’d live forever.

A friend of mine also thought the same, but she relocated after landing an amazing job. Now, she lives on the east coast and is thriving. When I saw how change was helping her make advances in her life, I started to think about also making a change. As I thought about potential places I could call home, they all seemed to be far away from the freezing winters. One application was a success, and I got a job that helped me move to the south. The weather here is amazing, and I don’t mind the heat at all. After two years on the job, I began hunting for a home instead of paying rent for an apartment. My home is now in a lovely community, and I’ve made lots of upgrades to it including the cooling system. I was fortunate to find a house with everything I needed. But, the cooling system was old, so that had to go. I found a local HVAC company that did an excellent job replacing the aging cooling system in my home. I also spoke with the HVAC contractor about air quality in the house since it can be quite hot and humid. His advice was I should look into a whole-home air purification system. I did some research, and started to save for the system. Just when I was almost hitting my target, I got a bonus from work and the money went into installing a whole-home air purification system in my home.

It was such a shock when it came to replace the AC in my home.

So, I always make sure it’s in the best condition so I can have my investment for a long time.

When I relocated from the north, I was finally happy to be done with frigid winters. I know some people don’t mind the cold. But that wasn’t for me at all even though I was born in the area. I’d be longing for summer all winter, and never want the heat to end. But, every October, you could feel the weather change, and I knew another cold season was on its way. Well, a job opportunity came up, and I knew that was my chance to move down south where the weather was perfect. They do have lots of heat, but the winters are nice and mild. I stayed in an apartment for a short period, did some house hunting, and bought the perfect lake house. It’s in an amazing location, and the best part was the house came with a functioning AC. I had to pay a bit more for a waterfront lake house, so I didn’t have extra at that time to replace the AC. Thankfully, the previous owner had taken good care of the AC, and I ended up using it for an extra 5 years. Time came when it was time for AC replacement, and the total cost knocked the wind out of me. So, as the HVAC worker did his job, we got to talk about AC maintenance that I can do to prolong its life span. Now I implement that each year, and I’m hoping to have it for more than 15 years.

It’s been three years since I moved away from home, and I actually miss living with my parents.

Don’t get me wrong, they aren’t awful people.

But, my parents can be a little strict. So, this means even as an adult, they had me on a curfew. I wasn’t allowed to come home later than midnight as a 28 year old. This wasn’t the best situation, but I had a plan. I was saving to buy a house, so living at home rent free while working full time was the best deal. Eventually, I did save enough money, and my parents even topped me off with more money. That was a surprise that I never saw coming.
