Why I grew up as independent as I am, is surprising. It was the culture she was raised in, but we moved to the United States. I have become the product of a father who doesn’t think women should worship her husband, and what I have learned in school. After going to the school job fair, I knew I was going to be an HVAC technician. I was anxious to get home and tell my mom I wanted to be an HVAC technician. I wasn’t even in the door when I was shouting to her. She came running down the stairs to make sure I was okay, and my grandmother was right behind her. I told mom what I wanted to do when I graduated high school. Grandma hid a smile, but mom went ballistic. She saw my grandmother’s smile and told her I would be an HVAC technician when monkeys fly. I watched grandma closely and saw her walk over to the curtains. She was peering outside as if she was looking for something. Mom asked what she was doing, and said she had just washed the curtains. Grandma told her she was looking for flying monkeys. Mom was not happy with grandma’s answer. She told me my father would never allow it, but mom was wrong. Dad smiled and told me it would be nice to have an HVAC technician in the family. He could save some money on his HVAC system.

She flipped another switch and the furnace turned on.

I had the oddest sensation I was about to see either something amazing, or amazingly stupid. My sister couldn’t wait to show me the birthday present she made for my five-year-old niece. She told me to keep the noise down, because she didn’t want anyone to follow us into the basement, and ruin the surprise. When she took the blanket off the box, I was in awe. She had built an amazing dollhouse. I couldn’t believe the detail she had put into it. I knew my sister was an architect, but I never expected this kind of detail to go into a toy. She laughed and told me to wait a second. The dollhouse got even better. She flipped a switch and all the lights turned on. She told me she was now going to show me the best. She flipped another switch and the air conditioning unit turned on. She laughed and asked if it was too cool for air conditioning, and turned it off. She flipped another switch and the furnace turned on. I could see the glow of the heater and then there was a small stream of heat coming out of every air vent. She told me there was no ductwork, but she had a switch inside each air vent that would turn on when the furnace turned on. I thought it was the best work she had ever done, but why would a dollhouse need working HVAC? She reminded me how we used to pretend we were fairies. She built the playhouse to the standards we wanted when we became fairies.

You would think that when you live in an apartment building, everyone would have the same heating or air conditioning.

I can tell you that isn’t the case.

My apartment doesn’t get nearly as much air conditioning as the apartment next to me. I was jealous of their air conditioning. I used every reason I could think of to visit my neighbors, because I had cool air for a few minutes. My apartment wasn’t hot, but it was warmer than anywhere else I had been in the building. I called the maintenance man and told him about the air conditioning. He said he didn’t have any complaints from anyone else, so he thought maybe it was just me. I wanted him to come look at the air vents and see if there was anything wrong. He wasn’t happy to be called, but I needed more air conditioning. When he got to my apartment, he looked at the thermostat, but it was working well. He then checked the air vents. He said they were really dirty and was going to vacuum them out. Half an hour later, he was back with an industrial vacuum cleaner. The more he sucked out, the more he was finding in the air vent. He asked if I was having a beach party here. He didn’t know the air ducts were that dirty. He said I would need to take what I had because he had to call the HVAC company and get the ductwork cleaned before I had more air conditioning. I would gladly wait if it was going to be cooler in my apartment.

I had recently bought the second floor of a duplex.

I loved how the duplex was laid out, and I was happy to be living there.

I invited all my friends over to see my new home, and we had a huge party. It was getting quite warm inside, with twenty-five people there, and I had to turn on the air conditioning. I turned the air conditioning off, and it was soon cooling off. I soon got a phone call from my downstairs neighbor. They asked if I had done anything different in the last hour. I told them I had turned on the air conditioning. I was having a housewarming party. I invited them up, but she thanked me, but said no. She was wondering what was going on. When I turned on the air conditioning, her lights dimmed. That didn’t sound good. There was either a problem with our wiring, or the air conditioning was surging and taking up more power. I wasn’t an electrician, or an HVAC technician, but it made sense to me. I asked her to turn her air conditioning on and see if the lights dimmed again. When nothing happened, I knew it was a problem with my air conditioning unit. I turned it off, and told her I would call the HvAC company first thing in the morning. I didn’t want my home burning down because of a faulty air conditioning unit. When I called the HVAC company the next morning, I was told it would be later that afternoon before they could arrive. I had to take the day off work to be there when the HVAC technician arrived.

Our goal was to get value for money which is why we settled for the best quality air purification systems

The climate around our neighborhood has certainly changed over the past few years. I have lived here for the past decade and a half with my wife and we can confirm that things have worsened in the last 3 years. Allergy season has become worse with a lot of pollen and dust being released. We had chosen to live here because it was one of the areas with the least amount of dust in the environment. We had to live in this city because of the work we do but we had checked out several neighborhoods before settling here. The many trees, and barriers set around the gated community worked well to prevent lots of dust. Unfortunately, this seems to have changed in the last three years. A lot of dust seems to get into our house and settle on everything. This has made my wife’s allergic reactions worsen to the point that each week we needed to be at the hospital. The doctor recommended getting air purifiers for our home to help ensure the environment is safe for everyone. He asked us to talk to an HVAC business that specializes in air purification systems. The HVAC techs at the shop were kind enough to walk us through the variety of ventilation systems they stocked. They also told us how effective the different systems were. Our goal was to get value for money which is why we settled for the best quality air purification systems. This cost us a lot of money but it was definitely going to be cheaper in the long run especially because the allergic reactions would reduce. We also had to get a few HEPA filters for the HVAC unit to make things easier and better.

I visited my friend Tina over the summer holiday season.

We were on school summer break and my parents had finally agreed that I could visit my best friend in another state.

Although she attended school in our state, her parents lived in a different state while she stayed with her grandma in our state. Her life was complicated and her grandma had taken custody of her while her parents sorted out their issues.However, she was free to visit them during the holidays. She had invited me several times but my parents wouldn’t allow it. This holiday I was elated when they let me go because Tona’s grandma was coming with us and they could trust her. I was eager to be out of our state for the first time, and was ready to experience life from a different perspective. Tina’s parents lived in a cool neighborhood. You could tell they enjoyed lots of fresh air when the trees bloom. The huge trees with beautiful flowers were a sight to behold. Even at that, the area was too hot for comfort. Luckily for us, Tina’s parents’ house had a fantastic cooling system. Besides the central HVAC system that ran continuously to keep temperatures controlled, there were a few ceiling fans that blew the breeze in one’s direction. We came to appreciate this when on our third visit the AC suddenly stopped working. It turns out Tna’s mom had forgotten to schedule the routine HVAC maintenance before the summer season began officially. She tried to get a hold of the HVAC technician to help fix the cooling unit to no avail. Were it not for the fact that the HVAC business had a few customers cancel at the last minute, we would have had to use portable ACs for at least three days.

The economy has really been tight ever since Covid pandemic hit. The hotel industry where Iwork was affected.For almost 2 years, the amount of money we earn has reduced significantly. The fact that the global economy is also on the downward spiral does not make things better despite the return to normalcy. This has seen most of us in the industry readjust our lives and reorganize our lives again. I have had to make very drastic financial measures which have mainly been about watching how I spend money. Since there’s not much to spare, I make sure only to spend on items that I must.For instance, I try to use up items on my pantry when it comes to cooking before I can consider going to the grocery store. I also don’t overstock the fridge like I used to since most of the items would go bad. My wife has been considering going off-grid and I think this is something we will be looking at in the next few months. Besides saving on food and household expenses, we also try our best to save on energy costs. This has seen us invest in an efficient heating and cooling system. While we would love to get new HVAC equipment to make it even better, this is not on our budget. Even so, we do our best to ensure that the unit we have works. This we do by ensuring regular HVAC maintenance. Any forms of air conditioning repairs are also handled immediately. We have the number of our HVAC tech on the speed dial just in case we notice something off. At this rate, we cannot afford to waste cash on avoidable mistakes.
