Getting a gas line installation so we can get a gas powered furnace
My husband and I dreamed about being homeowners for years before we had the means to make it a reality. We both fell into better jobs and slowly saved as much money as possible to muster a down payment. On top of the cash in savings, we also had to improve our credit scores which took considerable time. I had a few defaulted credit cards from my 20s that needed to be cleared while my husband had medical debt of his own. When we each got our credit scores over 700 points, we started looking seriously at houses available in our area. Thankfully we settled on a location and signed the paperwork a mere two months before the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Now people can’t find houses even if they’re willing to pay above the asking price. Of the people who thought that they could get an empty lot and build slowly, they’re now realizing how tough it is to do that with building supplies hitting a historic high. We were thankful that we could afford getting a gas line installation because some people can’t even afford a home to begin with. Instead, we’re adding improvements to our home and we can’t lose sight of how fortunate we are in that respect. We want a gas line installed here so we can get a gas power furnace and a gas powered hot water heater. We’re even considering a tankless hot water heater, but we’re not sure if we like the idea of not having hot water on demand when you need it. This is especially true if your power goes out for any extended period of time.
This building is just way too hot
We were sitting waiting for her to be called back when we heard the HVAC system kick on and I was so elated because I figured that finally the cooling system would offer some relief to the hot stuffy waiting room.
This week seemed to be the week of never ending doctor appointments. On Monday, my daughter had an eye appointment, on Tuesday she had an appointment with her cardiologist, and Wednesday she had an appointment with her primary doctor, and finally on Thursday she had a dental appointment. When we walked into the dental office we were hit by this wall of hot air. As we waited to adjust to the overly warm waiting room we both found it hard to breathe in there because the heat was so overwhelming that it was actually suffocating. We were sitting waiting for her to be called back when we heard the HVAC system kick on and I was so elated because I figured that finally the cooling system would offer some relief to the hot stuffy waiting room. I was wrong though, the HVAC system did kick on but instead of blowing out nice refreshing cool air it was pumping out more hot air! I could not believe it! It was close to ninety degrees outside and they HVAC system was just pumping out more air. I heard on of the other patients ask the receptionist why the heat was on she and she simply replied that the dentist would only allow the cooling system to be turned on after June 1st!! Until then he liked to keep the thermostat set to 80 degrees with heat continually pumping out. I find that disgusting.
Old Cars don’t always have the best heating and cooling
My father in law is a vintage car lover.
He has a barn full of old cars, some date back to when cars first hit the roads in 1910!! On warm summer days he likes to take the old cars out for a summer drive on the old country roads.
A few weekends ago my family and I were visiting my in laws for a BBQ. While I helped my mother in law with the meal, my husband played basketball with the kids in the driveway while my father in law washed and wax a car from the 1920 era. It was a very nice afternoon. My oldest son began to show interest in what his grandfather was doing and soon my father in law was showing him how to properly wax a car. I was actually very surprised that my son seemed so interested in helping his grandfather. After we had all had an early dinner my father in law asked my kids if they would like to go for a short car ride in the car he had just washed. They all jumped at the chance to go with him. My husband and I were helping clean up the kitchen when they all returned from the ride and the kids all looked irritated as they climbed out of the car. As it turns out the kids were really upset that grandpa refused to turn on the air conditioning in the car because they didn’t like feeling the wind on their faces. They thought it was mean of their grandfather to refuse to turn on the ac. We had to explain to them that cars that old didn’t have cooling systems.
The company that made this window a/c needs better quality control
I don’t expect all manufacturers to stay within the United States, but at least pay for quality control wherever you take your factory.
One of my favorite guitar companies has a factory in Mexico that makes guitars that are nearly equal in value to their American made guitars, but the price is much lower to reflect the faster turn-around and the difference in wages. Regardless, their quality control for the Mexican factory is still extremely high compared to many other guitar manufacturers within that price range. This company realized a long time ago that it’s not necessarily about where something is made as long as the chosen factory understands the market demands and has a quality control team funded from the start. Some of the purchases I make give me a different reaction sadly. This window air conditioner that I bought last year has been slowly falling apart ever since I took it out of the box and first installed it in the window in my home office upstairs. It was much louder than my old window air conditioner upon the first day of use. The noise in the window a/c has only gotten worse with prolonged use. I think the fan motor for the window a/c causes parts to vibrate as it oscillates during use. Now it’s a rattling mess and I’m wondering why I didn’t return the window a/c to the store after trying it for the first time. I probably could have gotten a refund given the frustrations that I’m facing with this horrible machine.
