Getting into jumping rope

I have gotten really enthusiastic about jumping rope for my workouts.

I used to love to jump when I was a little girl.

I got away from the activity for quite a few years. I then read a fitness blog that mentioned jumping rope as an advantageous full-body workout. I started out with a fairly inexpensive leather rope with weighted handles. I was not very good at it. I kept tripping on the rope and smacking myself in the calves. The rope was too long for me, and I would sometimes step on it. The rope often knotted and frayed. I broke several ropes and finally invested into a much better quality and more expensive system. The set I bought includes four ropes of different weights that attach to one set of handles. I have a quarter-pound, a half-pound, one-pound and a two-pound rope, with each one providing a different style of workout. The heavier ropes swing slower, are exhausting and really work my shoulders and arms. The lighter ropes rotate very quickly and are a great cardio workout. I am able to easily switch from one rope to another. I have invested into a specialized rubber mat that provides cushioning for my feet and won’t curl up or slip. I jump rope nearly every day. Sometimes I jump for a warmup and only for around ten minutes. On other days, I might jump for nearly the whole hour. It took me a while to build up enough stamina and skills to jump more than a minute or two. I practiced and gradually got proficient at some of the more difficult skills, such as double-unders, crossovers and high knees. Since becoming interested in jumping rope, I’ve noticed that I’ve toned my muscles and slimmed down quite a bit.

Home gym is not temperature controlled

My workout space has no temperature control.

I have my home gym setup in a lanai built across the back of my house.

The one wall is entirely constructed of screens that allow in a fresh breeze. For most of the year, the screens are an asset. We enjoy mild weather conditions, and the influx of fresh air helps to motivate me. I appreciate the view of the lake behind my house. I see all sorts of birds, squirrels, fishermen, jet skis and boaters. I have enough space to have a mini trampoline, incline bench and a treadmill. I’m able to unroll a yoga mat, lift weights, jump rope and perform a series of lunges, squats, jumping jacks, burpees and all sorts of exercises. There is a smooth cement floor, a high ceiling and the space is well lit. Because of the ventilation, I feel good about the air quality and never worry about the smell of sweat. I only have complaints with the weather for a couple of months. In the middle of the winter, the temperature can drop down into the forties. Although I bundle up in layers of clothing, I’m still chilly during the workout. It’s very difficult to get my muscles and joints warmed up. It’s a challenge to push myself when I’m wearing so many clothes and shivering. In the middle of the summer, the temperature soars into the nineties and the humidity is brutal. I plug in a box fan and stand right in front of it. I try to get up early and exercise before the heat of the day sets in. I still sweat profusely before I’ve even gotten through my warm up. I tend to feel slow and sluggish.

The group fitness classes were canceled after the scare

The owners of the fitness center where my friends and I work out were not scared of the government’s warning to shut things down when the covid virus began.

The fitness center stayed open long after the rules were changed.

I went to the fitness center and worked out with all of my friends. I didn’t wear a mask and I wasn’t concerned. I was incredibly stupid and foolish. When my best friend Jack got sick, he called the fitness center. He had been there the previous day before he tested positive. He was forced to notify every person he came in contact with during the last week. The owner of the fitness center did not want to take any chances. The guy immediately called a cleaning crew to clean and sanitize the fitness center. Unfortunately, a couple of days later there were reports of five additional people coming down with a virus. At that point, the owner of the fitness center did not have any choice. The guy had to close down the store until the quarantine. Even the group fitness classes were canceled after the scare, and they are held in an entirely different part of the building. The spin class was canceled and the yoga class was moved to a different place. All of the group fitness classes resumed when the fitness center reopened. The virus scared a lot of people and worried many more. I’m glad to see that things are almost over. It will be nice when we’re out of the clear and we can go back to life as usual.

The kids won't be able to use the pool afterschool

I’ve been talking to the school board members about the proposal changes.

People at the fitness center have been complaining about kids using the pool after school. I honestly didn’t think the rules would ever change. I didn’t think there was a way to man all of the children from using the pool. After last night’s meeting, I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what is going to happen. I attended a meeting at the fitness center. Everyone with a membership was invited to attend the meeting. After hours, they were discussing closing down the pool to children. The pool has always been open to children, and I was really surprised by all of the comments. Most people agreed that the kids should not be able to use the pool. I tried to interject with some reasoning. After all, if the kids don’t have this place to go after school, where will they go? That is always something that has worried me. I hate to see the kids end up on the streets because there aren’t any fun after school programs. I’ve been talking to the school board members about the proposal changes. They agree it won’t be beneficial to the students. I think the school might Implement an after-school program to keep the kids safe. The after-school program at the school will not include swimming or a pool, but the kids will have activities and sports to keep them busy when school is over. I have really offered to volunteer to help out and I donated some supplies about should you get the program moving in the right direction.

I needed comfort for my office while working

I was late when it came to getting around to doing our taxes this year, and of course, the tax deadlines were approaching, so I at last got to work.

Of course, I always make sure to adjust the temperature control settings just right in our office so I can think more relaxed plus comfortable… I usually set the thermostat for our cooling method to about 68 degrees, then because I have a smart thermostat, I can adjust the temperature control settings as needed so I don’t have to get away from our tax work.

I was shocked when I learned about this current facial recognition method that the IRS was basically forcing all tax paying Americans to use, however the locale is called ID.me plus they take your video selfie along with pictures! Now because of outrage from privacy groups plus those distraught about your personal information being stolen from identity thieves, the IRS said they were looking into other possibilities aside from facial recognition technology. Facial recognition technology doesn’t work well for people of color either causing all sorts of troubles. I haven’t been able to contact the IRS about this matter as of yet, but you can call first thing in the day when they open plus the iphone line says they are too busy to take your call. It easily is ridiculous plus I suppose I won’t see a tax return for quite some time until they get this mess sorted out. I’m looking to make an appointment with a local IRS location, hopefully they can resolve our troubles plus concerns because I don’t trust a non-government second get-together to properly handle our personal information, that’s utterly ridiculous.

It’s critical for me to have my HVAC system set properly
