The idea of having a big family seemed like such a good idea when my wife and I were first starting out having a family.

These days, I’m not so sure that we chose the best path when it came to having a big family.

For starters you have to have a house with quality heating and air that is big enough for five kids. Then comes all the saving for all those kids to get to college. Although I’ve got a few academics in the bunch that are going to score daddy some scholarship money. Still, it takes a lot to provide for all of us. My wife and I both work really hard inside the zone controlled HVAC of our respective offices to make all this happen. So it seems like coming home to just relax for a few minutes of peace inside the quality heating and air of my home isn’t asking too much. But with five kids there isn’t a whole lot of peace. Yet, I’m hoping that the HVAC professionals have now taken one of the bigger argument triggers off the menu with the new HVAC upgrade. The residential HVAC we have is really top quality and still has a decade or more left in it. But I had the HVAC company tweak that HVAC unit so we could have zone controlled HVAC. There are now 6 thermostats in the house. And hopefully, that will stop the incessant bickering over the thermostat setting when there was just one. That would be great and so far so good. The other day, I kicked back in the recliner for a full 20 minutes in the air conditioning before anyone even knew I was home!

It wasn’t an easy decision but it was clearly the only way to go.

Still, being out on the road all summer with the air conditioning in my car maxed out every day wasn’t my idea of fun.

When the company shut down the zone controlled HVAC of our offices and sent us all home, I wasn’t so sure I could do all my work from home. A big part of what I do involves traveling to be onsite for product and service implementation or to negotiate deals. That means I spend a lot of time hoping I’ll get a hotel room with good commercial HVAC. And I also spend a lot of time on airplanes. Even with the mask mandates and the HEPA filters on planes that year, the company wasn’t taking any chance and air travel was out. That meant that for me to do my job, I had to get out on the road. Since my territory is rather broad, it didn’t make much sense for me to go and come back all the time. So I packed up a dozen suits and hit the road. The air conditioning in the car was much more consistent than the HVAC on most of the flights I’d been on lately. And I found that the interstate hotels always had the best commercial HVAC. While I was gone a long time that summer, I sure didn’t do without great air conditioning. That’s been 2 years ago now. And honestly, I sort of miss being on the road as opposed to flying again.

I guess I had it all wrong when it came to air filters for the HVAC equipment.

For years, I’ve been using the wrong kind of air filter thinking that I was doing it right.

But the kind of air filter wasn’t the only part of the air filter scenario that I wasn’t getting right. I’m a homeowner and that’s something that I was once really proud of. My wife and I scrimped and saved in order to buy this place. We even replaced the HVAC equipment with the best residential HVAC that we could find at the time. But as our family grew and responsibilities mounted inside the zone controlled HVAC at work, I was doing less around the house. In fact, I was not even changing the HVAC air filter on time any longer. That’s pretty bad when you can’t even remember to take five minutes to change and air filter. That air filter change is a vital part of the entire HVAC operation. Unobstructed air flow is the very lifeblood of the HVAC unit. Dirty and clogged air filters force the HVAC equipment to work even harder. That mean more wear and tear on sensitive parts as well as more utility costs. So when I learned that we really should have been using HEPA filters all along, I changed my entire HVAC air filter game. There are now HEPA filters for the HVAC. They not only protect the HVAC equipment but they provide good indoor air quality for my respiratory health. That’s a win for me and a win for the HVAC unit as I’m changing the HEPA filter right on time.

When it comes to household projects I’m neither the worst nor the best.

I can hold my own with most things.

I’ll even take a look at appliances that aren’t working before buying a new one or calling for service. But when it comes to the HVAC equipment, I honestly knew better than to try to fix the air conditioning. I know this because my instinct was to call the HVAC company as soon as I discovered the air conditioning wasn’t cooling. The thing that confused me so much was the fact that the HVAC equipment was indeed running. It’s just that there wasn’t any cooling comfort coming from the ductwork. Somehow, in my pea brain, I thought maybe there was just a simple fix. I knew enough not to go online and try to diagnose HVAC equipment. I didn’t have the training of the know how of an HVAC technician. I knew that but I still thought that maybe there was a faulty switch or fuse that might be obvious to fix. Of course, an hour into messing with the HVAC equipment, I got no closer to finding that simple fix. And, I made the situation worse because the HVAC equipment wouldn’t even run at that point. So I ended up finally calling the HVAC company. But that foray into HVAC repair on my own cost me an HVAC service call and the remainder of my HVAC warranty. That’s right, just by messing with the HVAC unit, I voided the warranty on it. So please take it from me and call the HVAC professionals when or if there is a problem.

I’m just thankful that I have great air conditioning. This sounds a bit weird perhaps but quality heating and air is not something that I take lightly. Most people who live where I do would agree with me. When the summer temperatures sit right around the century mark for four months straight, you want some good HVAC cooling. The only way to get good HVAC cooling is to have great residential HVAC. That’s what we have in our house and I couldn’t me more pleased with the quality heating and air it provides. Same goes for my office. The air conditioning is excellent in the office as well but it takes it up a notch with zone controlled HVAC. I have a thermostat right outside of my office so my end of the office is always getting good HVAC cooling. The deeper we get into summer, the more relevant good air conditioning becomes. Even our summer vacation comes with great air conditioning. For years, we took our chances with hotels or resorts. Sometimes you got the good commercial HVAC and sometimes you didn’t. But these days, we know exactly where we’re staying and are assured that the residential HVAC is outstanding. We have booked the same vacation house for 3 years running and I can’t wait to get there again this summer. The place has zone controlled HVAC with a thermostat in the master bedroom. After a day of sun and sea, it’s so nice to be able to know that going back to the rental will come with guaranteed HVAC cooling comfort.

Things like quality heating and air don’t just happen automatically. But that’s sort of the way I’ve approached HVAC my entire life. Well, that’s going to stop now that I’m a homeowner. Two years ago, I finally had enough for a downpayment on my first place. Thank goodness I was able to purchase my home before the real estate market just exploded. I bet my house is worth 30 to 40 percent more right now in just two years of owning it. One of the first things I had to do in order to live in this space was address the heating and cooling equipment. It was in rough shape as were most of the appliances and flooring in house. Living without quality heating and air just wasn’t going to cut in any sort of way. So I bought some great residential HVAC and the HVAC professionals installed it. I have great HVAC technology that includes a high SEER rating for efficiency as well as a smart thermostat. The smart thermostat not only takes care of all the heating and cooling changes but it saves me big bucks on utility costs. However, I learned real quick that I have to do my part too. That means changing the air filter each month without fail. I even signed up for the HVAC service plan to ensure that my new HVAC equipment got the HVAC maintenance that it needs. I’ll dang sure not be taking quality heating and air for granted any longer.

I honestly haven’t been too concerned with air conditioning over the course of my adult life.

The region where I live is not a place that needs a whole lot of air conditioning. At least that was the case for a long time. It seems that I’m either getting more sensitive to the heat or it’s getting hotter for longer in the summer around here. Normally, I’m just so thankful that gas furnace isn’t running that I don’t think too much about heat here in the summer. Our big focus is on the HVAC heating part of all that quality heating and air that our HVAC equipment provides. The gas furnace is just first rate residential HVAC stuff. And I’m very thankful to have it. We invested quite a bit of money in the thing a few years ago. The old gas furnace went a long time and was a good one. But this new gas furnace has all sorts of HVAC technology the old one lacked. To make sure that I’m getting peak efficiency and the gas furnace is ready for the winter load, I call for heating maintenance each fall. I don’t forget that phone call to the HVAC company because to do otherwise would be stupid and potentially dangerous. Yet, I have been completely inconsistent with the central air conditioning in our house. I didn’t call for the air conditioning tune up in the spring like I normally do. It’s now mid June and the heat is climbing but the air conditioning just isn’t keeping up. Looks like forgetting to get the air conditioning tune-up is going to cost me and HVAC service call for sure.
