When I looked down at the carpet, I couldn’t help but to have a massive frown appear on my face. Thanks to our kids, our once beige carpet was now a wide array of different colors. Different stains lined the carpet, some intentional, such as my kid’s using markets on the carpet, and some not. Then there were a few pet stains from the family dog as well. I decided that I could no longer keep paying to have the carpet cleaned, it was too far gone, and so I was going to have all of the carpet replaced. While the carpet was being replaced, I stayed at my friend’s place. My friend didn’t mind me staying over, and it allowed us a bit of time to catch up. I would be staying in the guest room for the night. The only thing my friend asked was to help bring in some old boxes she had in storage. I gladly helped out, and while I was loading the boxes in her garage, I stepped in something wet. I was used to stepping in puddles, usually because my kids spilled something, but I knew it couldn’t have been them. When I looked down I recognized the familiar puddle underneath an air conditioning system. I had this once before, and it was because of a clogged air filter. After I finished with the boxes, I made sure to tell my friend about my suspicions of a clogged air conditioning filter. My friend had no idea that there was an issue with the HVAC machine. After I left the next day, she called and told me that I was right, the HVAC worker confirmed it was a clogged air filter.

When I stepped out of my car, I did not expect to step directly into a puddle. I was confused. It had not rained in a good long while, so where did this water come from? I followed the water trail and it led to the air conditioning system which I saw was slowly dripping water. After mopping up the puddle, I decided that it would be a good idea to call the heating and cooling business close to me. Thankfully, the A/C company was not busy at all, and was able to send out a HVAC specialist the same day. A few hours later, the HVAC worker arrived to look at the issue. Apparently leaking air conditioning units is not exactly uncommon. The cause? A clogged air filter. Apparently you are supposed to replace the air filter every 2 months or so. You might have to replace them more though if you have pets or anything else that can dirty your air filter quickly. I am ashamed to say that I probably only replaced my HEPA air filter every 6 months or so, so it makes sense as to why I would experience this problem. After the heating and cooling technician put in a new filter and repaired the HVAC machine, the leaking stopped. I will definitely have to make sure I replace those air filters more often, because I have had many issues with the cooling unit and I bet that is why. I decided to go ahead and buy air filters from the HVAC company’s website, so that way I will be able to replace it again in 2 months.

There are lots of issues that can come from having too low humidity, or air that is too dry.

Thankfully, it is fairly easy to fix the issue.

I almost always have dry air in the wintertime, but for once, I started having issues with the humidity in the summertime. This was unusual because usually the summer is fairly humid. I can tell when the humidity is too low in my house because my lips started to become really dry. Usually when my lips become dry and sore I notice it’s because of the air. In the extreme cases my throat will become sore as well, from breathing in all of that dry air. I make sure to take a lot of cough drops as well as keep my chapstick nearby. But then I take out my humidifier and then fix the issue. Even if you don’t have a humidifier like I do, there are some things you can do to raise the humidity. You can take a bowl of water and place it in front of a fan, or if you don’t have a fan, you can take a spray bottle and spray water in the air to raise humidity. These are things that I did before I got my humidifier. I would highly recommend that anyone who struggles with dry air to get a humidifier, is incredibly easy to set up and take care of, and it will remove all dry air problems. The only issue is that you can’t run your A/C system as much, since air conditioning removes some of the humidity.

When I was checking out the rest of my items, I passed right by a section of items that were on sale.

I looked briefly, and wasn’t intending on buying anything, however one thing did catch my eye. They had a small but beautiful fountain that was $15! Most of those fountains for sale are usually triple that price, so this was a steal! I decided to go ahead and buy it, since I had been wanting one of those for a long time. I actually had one when I was a child, and I loved it then. So I definitely wanted one now! Anyways, I brought the fountain home and set it up. It was really easy to set up and it looked so nice! There was only one problem. I always struggled with high humidity in the home. I can tell, as much as I love my new fountain, that it definitely increased the humidity. You know that feeling when you go outside at night and it’s really humid and warm? Well my home now had that feeling. I started dreading coming home because I didn’t want to feel an overly warm humid house. My air conditioning system did remove some of the humidity, but it wasn’t nearly enough. Then I was left with two options. I could remove the fountain so my humidity would return back to normal, or I could start looking into getting a dehumidifier, which I know a few local stores sell. Even though it is an additional purchase, I couldn’t imagine getting rid of my fountain. So a dehumidifier it is.

People have told me that I am a foodie, and they wouldn’t be wrong by saying so.

I know I love food, and it is hard for me not to focus all of my attention on it sometimes.

One of my most favorite restaurants is only a mile away from here, and I don’t mind taking a nice long walk over there to get some delicious food. I was in the mood for lunch, however, I noticed it was quite sunny out. It can be pretty hot during the daytime, so I was a little hesitant to go outside on a sunny day. However, the thought of an early lunch was too good, and I decided to take the walk anyway. I figured it was a bad idea as soon as I stepped outside. It was incredibly hot outside! However, I had already placed an online order, so I had to toughen the sun. I walked the mile, and by the end, I was sweating profusely and getting dark splotches in my vision. I knew that I needed to get back into my cool air conditioned home really fast, and luckily I wasn’t that far away. I managed to get home and I had to sit down for a bit. My vision was so dark it made it hard to see, but worst of all, I was so incredibly hot and uncomfortable. The food was delicious as always, but it took me several hours to finally cool down and feel comfortable again, even with the air conditioning going. It made me regret getting my food a bit. Next time I am only walking on cloudy days.

So far, I am actually really happy with the portable heater in our home.

I will admit, when my boyfriend brought that thing home, I was already thinking it was a waste of money, and disapproving hard.

The reason why my boyfriend was bringing home a heating unit was because the central heater was incredibly old, and it stopped working sometime back. When it stopped working we didn’t try to repair it, because we had already shoveled so much money into trying to bring that thing back to life, it just wasn’t worth it anymore. I was already making plans to call the HVAC corporation in the morning and explain our situation, then to ask for HVAC installation quotes. My boyfriend had another idea though, and that is when he went out and brought back the portable furnace. I looked at the tiny thing, how in the world was a tiny furnace like that supposed to heat our home? I told my boyfriend he would be returning it, once it proves that it cannot heat the home. However, much to my surprise, the portable heating unit actually did heat most of our home. Granted, our home was pretty small, but I was quite confident that it was a waste. However, the portable HVAC device completely blew me away with how well it worked. It worked so well in fact, my boyfriend went out and bought another one! With the two of them together, our home felt comfortable, and it saved us a lot of money. My boyfriend is pretty smart, and I feel bad for doubting him.

Problem solved

I noticed that it is not uncommon for our air conditioning system to act up. And when I say act up, I don’t mean it completely breaks down and I have to call an air conditioning specialist to come and repair it. No, the issues are always fairly minor, and something simple enough even someone like me, with no HVAC experience can repair. The thing is, we have had the air conditioning component looked at multiple times, and multiple heating and cooling workers have told us that it looked perfectly fine, and there were no issues they could see. So we have kind of accepted the occasional issues as a quirk of our air conditioning device. I came home from work yesterday, and my kids ran to meet me at the door. Instead of the welcome that I was expecting, they were instead complaining about the HVAC machine. Sure enough, the home did feel quite warm on the inside. I figured that it was another minor problem that the cooling unit was having again. So I went, turned off the A/C machine, waited 10 minutes and turned it back on. Sure enough, the ice cold air came pouring out from A/C vents, as I heard the familiar click of the A/C turn itself on. Problem solved. It was exactly like I thought, the A/C was doing its weird thing again, and once I restarted it, it was working just like new. Now my kids think I am a hero, and we have the comfortable A/C once more.
