School pageant without heat.

My niece is in kindergarten this year and I have loved going to see her in all of her little programs.

  • She had a Halloween parade, Thanksgiving Pilgrim program and now they have a Christmas concert tonight.

She is playing a candy cane in a skit and it should be cute. I only hope they get the heat fixed at the school in time. My sister called this morning to let me know that the pageant may need to be postponed because they had cancelled school for the day. The HVAC system was broken and they could have the students there in a cold building. She said that they would make the call on the performance by 4:00pm. I sure hope that they can get it up and running because my niece is really looking forward to the event. She has showed me her practice routine several times and it I can’t wait to see her in her costume. I don’t have kids of my own yet so I really have fun watching her grow and become her own little person. I can only imagine that most of the parents at the school are hoping that the heat is fixed too. Not only are the kids going to be disappointed that the show will not happen, but, they will have to find childcare for the kids for the day that they miss out on school. I can imagine that they are working hard on getting it repaired. The size system that they have in a building that size must be difficult to keep up with anyway. It has to not only heat the buildings but filter out all the dust and debris hat comes with kids running around all the time.

Sick of being sick

This has been a very rough start to the new year. Many of our friends have come down with either the flu or severe colds and it seems that these just keep getting passed from one family to another. I have really tried to avoid any social gatherings and large crowds in hopes of escaping as many germs as possible. It helps that last year we had our HVAC system upgraded with additional filtration because it removes many of the germs and bacteria from the air. I think that this is our best defense against the assault of illnesses that seem to be plaguing our group this year. Maybe if our friends all invested in this same upgrade, they too, would be able to stay healthy. My one girlfriend also suffers from severe allergies so I think I will give her the phone number of our HVAC dealer. They are really great to work with and we have always been thrilled with their service. They aren’t pushy when the make suggestions to upgrade or change our system. They simply give us the estimates and explain the benefits. They then allow us time to make our decision. You need a reliable company to work with when making such important choices. The HVAC system in your home is a large investment that can either increase or decrease the value of your home. As I said, I really feel that our system has made a huge difference in our health since we upgraded it. We pay a little more for the extra filters that must be changed out more often, but it is worth every penny. We save on doctor visits and medication too.

Dreams become reality

Did you ever wake up startled by a very vivid dream? It has happened to me on many occasions and sometimes I can’t get over it for a few days.

I remember one time when I woke up in the middle of the night terrified that my house was on fire.

It was so real while I was sleeping that I woke up sweating and almost hyperventilating. As my head cleared I got up to check the entire house. My bedroom is downstairs and all seemed somewhat normal but as I went up to the second story to check things out, I noticed that the temperature was rising as I ascended the stairs. I was really worried that maybe my dreams was more than that but then I realized that the HVAC system was working overtime. I have several zones in my house and the upstairs one seemed to have a definite problem. My home wasn’t on fire as in my dream, but, It was 82 degrees upstairs. I tried turning the thermostat down but that didn’t seem to help. I then shut the zone off completely. I opened a couple of windows to try and cool off the rooms. After that, I planned on calling my HVAC dealer first thing in the morning. I went back to bed and tried to sleep but I was so worried that something was seriously wrong, I only tossed and turned. What if the problem was so bad that it actually did set my house on fire?. I knew that I would be relieved once my HVAC dealer checked it out thoroughly. I only hope it is an easy fix.

New homeowners, big mistake!

When we got married last year, our guest were more than generous with the monetary gifts they gave us.

We really felt Blessed to have so many people come out to support our new lives together. We put the money in the savings account to hopefully be able to put a down payment on a house within the year. We started looking slowly at properties that we could afford. They had to be close to work for both of us, in a lower tax area, and we needed a fenced yard for our two puppies. We figured that anything else we could handle, such as cosmetic upgrades and such. The opportunity arose to purchase one of my uncle’s homes as he was relocating. He was willing to lower the asking price so that family could purchase the home and it met all of our most important needs. We made a huge mistake in not hiring an inspector when buying the house. After all, we were buying from family, what could go wrong? After spending all of our savings on the down payment, painting, and some landscaping, we just found out the the HVAC system is shot. The company that had serviced it for years told us that they had been telling my uncle to upgrade or replaced for several years. This, was a fact he failed to mention, when he sold us the house. My parents are really mad and have offered to loan us the money for the repairs. The HVAC company said that they do offer financing so either way, we will be stuck making payments for the new system. At least we can save money on our utility bills as the new one will be way more efficient. Buyer beware, I never thought I needed it when dealing with family, guess I was wrong.

November Festival felt like August

In our neck of the woods, the Northeast, my wonderful friend and I normally have fairly cool Fall seasons.

This time of year is filled with festivals that celebrate the harvest plus cultures such as German plus Irish.

I believe this is due to the fact that multiple of the European cultures settled this part to begin with. One of our number one things to do as a family is attend the multiple Novemberfest celebrations in the area. This year, however, it has proven to be less wonderful due to the freaky weather my wonderful friend and I have been experiencing! Where my wonderful friend and I normally have 50’s to 60’s, my wonderful friend and I have had upper 76’s to 73’s. I love dressing in jeans plus sweatshirts while taking in the traditional songs, foods plus beverages. This year, I am walking around in shorts, covered in sweat like silly plus drinking water instead… I wish there were indoor celebrations where they could use the cooling system to make the festival feel more like it normally does. They could cool the room to sixty degrees plus decorate with fall foliage. I am sure it would be overpriced but I believe they would make it up in no time from the sales of food plus beer. When I believe of Fall I feel hot plus cozy so feeling hot plus hot is a real bummer. I wonder what they do in warmer climates to celebrate the Fall season. Maybe they treat it just like summer. I just wish that Mother Nature would turn on the natural “air conditioning” so my wonderful friend and I could prefer out time outside more. Until that happens my wonderful friend and I will continue to run our Heating plus Air Conditioning system at apartment as well.

Mom’s pear Pies

I cranked the air because I wanted to cool off the loft absolutely well before my wonderful friend and I even started the process

Growing up in the South must be actually different. I was born plus raised up North but my hubby is from the deep south. He lived in a small town that borders a river plus life was pretty simple. He didn’t even have a shopping center or movie theater for fifty miles. He plus his siblings made their own fun plus spent afternoons lazing around in the heat, fishing or swimming… Now that he has resituated to the North he sometimes complains about the pace that almost everyone needs things done… The other day he asked if my wonderful friend and I could make pear pies on the weekend. I didn’t see why my wonderful friend and I had to “make” them because my wonderful friend and I could simply “buy” them at the store. He said that when he was a kid it was one of his number one things to do with his mom. They would spend the morning in the orchard picking plums then head inside to help peel them. His mom would make the crust from scratch, slice the plums evenly, plus coat them in butter plus cinnamon. All of this sounded like something out of the tile ages to me, but, I wanted to make him ecstatic so I told him I would supply it a try. Thank goodness my wonderful friend and I have air conditioning because turning on the oven on a day where it is 85 degrees was the last thing I wanted to do. I cranked the air because I wanted to cool off the loft absolutely well before my wonderful friend and I even started the process. Pie making turned out to be an adventure plus one that I am sure I will perfect over time. My hubby was polite when I asked him how it taste but I am sure it was nothing like his mom’s.

Mom’s apple Pies

Growing up in the South must be very different. I was born & raised up North but my hubby is from the deep south. She lived in a small village that borders a river & life was pretty simple. All of this sounded like something out of the tile ages to me, but, I wanted to make him cheerful so I told him I would give it a try. Thank goodness we have air conditioning because turning on the oven on a morning where it is 85 degrees was the last thing I wanted to do. I cranked the air because I wanted to cool off the house easily well before we even started the process. Pie making turned out to be an adventure & one that I am sure I will perfect over time.
