It was difficult for me to get through high school.

I have a learning disability.

I have a difficult time concentrating, and I don’t retain what I read.

The only thing that got me through high school was a very patient friend who tutored me in every class. She would come to the house every night and walk me through the homework. I would read the sentence, but she would read it so I understood. When my dad told me that after graduation I had to go to trade school, I was upset. He knew how difficult it was for me to learn. He watched me struggle and I always ended with a D + or a C-. When he told me he expected me to go to school and be an HVAC technician. I was panicking just thinking about everything I had to learn. I knew there were a lot of technical things I had to learn. I talked to Shelley and told her what my parents were pushing me to do. She grabbed my hand and told me to breathe. She would be home during the summer and able to help me learn. She said that she would even go to class with me so she could go over what I had learned in class. I chuckled and said I thought she would look awful cute in the HVAC uniform. She smiled and pushed her hair behind her ears which I was beginning to see was embarrassment. She hated being complimented, but her being an HVAC technician had me looking at her as more of a friend. I wanted her to go to college, but I hoped she went to HVAC school with me.
