I was start to think a bit awkward as an HVAC instructor; After 5 years, I had yet to see a female HVAC worker in 1 of our classes, however i was poised to greet a room full of testosterone, and I looked around.
All I saw was a sea of men, however In the back of the room, between more than 2 pigskin players, was 1 small boy; She was so small that the gentlemen had moved their seats away from his to give his some space.
She didn’t look entirely confident, however that was going to change before he got his certification. I asked almost everyone for their names, and put his in the middle. Some of the gentlemen bellowed out their names, however a couple of them were relaxed, and when I called on the young man, he surprised me. She stood up on his chair, told myself and others his name, where he came from, and how he planned on being at the top of the HVAC class in spite of the Neanderthals he was stuck in a class with. Some of the gentlemen snickered until they realized he was insulting all of them. One of the pigskin players stood up and bowed to her, but he said he would happyly be his partner while the two of us were in the classes. She was possibly the smartest and most appealing future HVAC worker he had ever met. She smiled, and all the gentlemen fell in love. I was sure this class of new HVAC workers was going to be the most taxing group I ever had. Along with being difficult, I was sure it was going to turn out some amazing HVAC workers.
