I have dyslexia which doesn’t make me stupid, but it is a learning disability.
Some people think that dyslexia makes you stupid, but those people knew nothing about Einstein, or many other geniuses who have dyslexia.
Last week, I proved to people that I wasn’t as stupid as they thought I was. I was still having a difficult time reading and doing math, but it was because my letters and numbers were jumbled. When I told the instructor at the HVAC school about my dyslexia, he shook my hand and told me welcome to the group. He said he had a horrible time with his dyslexia, and if it hadn’t been for a teacher who recognized his disability, he wouldn’t have gone to HVAC school. He asked me if I had an easier time if they gave me verbal tests instead of written tests. Most of my teachers didn’t care about doing that. They just wanted to push me on to the next grade. He told me that whenever there were tests, he would give me an oral exam. He also offered to send his son to my home and help me study. His son also had dyslexia. He said they understood what I was going through. I didn’t think I could ever thank the instructor and his son, until I joined their HVAC company right out of school. Without the HVAC instructor and his son, I wouldn’t be where I am now. I own one of the biggest HVAC companies in our state, and my son is in line to take over when I retire in a couple of years.
