Heating, Ventilation and A/C Considerations for Home Remodels

Bring your heating, ventilation and A/C contractor into the planning process early so you can stay comfortable in your newly designed space.

  • Once the project is complete, you will have a fully functional and efficient way to keep the new or remodeled part comfortable.

Your heating, ventilation and A/C ducts may change as a result of your lovely condo renovation. You may be able to extend your heating, ventilation and A/C ductwork to condition the new or remodeled space. To determine whether your heating, ventilation and A/C unit will be able to handle the new space, your contractor will make a sizing calculation. You may still be able to use the new unit if the sizing calculation indicates it is too small. Through zoning, your small condo can be divided into separate areas that will be heated and cooled separately. Aside from being able to use your new system, your condo will be more comfortable, and your A/C bills may be lower. If your new unit is too small or has reached the end of its lifespan, you may need to install a brand new system. If you meet the criteria of the lender, you might be able to fold the cost into the financing for condo renovations. Mini split ductless heat pumps provide heating and cooling without ductwork, and for condo additions or retrofits, they’re ideal. Their high efficiency and ease of upgrade make them a great choice. As each mini split has its own temperature control, you can turn it off or adjust the temperature when not in use.
